There are a surprising number of cheap and simple, single ingredients that can work as deodorants. Try a few until you find the one that works for you. Before you make the switch to all-natural deodorants however, consider that your arm pits may need a make over first. Chances are your pores are horribly clogged up with chemicals from anti-perspirants et al so you need to give them a bit of a spring clean, so to speak. Once you have done this, the natural stuff is likely to work much better.
Most of these are antibacterial, odour busting or both:
- Bicarbonate of soda – use a make up brush or a powder puff to dust your arm pits with it.
- 3% Hydrogen peroxide – put in a spray botlle and spritz.
- Lemon – cut a lemon in half and use it to wipe under your arms. Alternatively, squeeze out the juice and put it in a spray bottle (keep in the fridge.)
- Lime – use as above
- Coconut Oil – just smear a bit under the arms
- Plain white vinegar or ACV – Wet a piece of cotton wool and wipe armpits or spritz from a spray bottle.
- Kombucha vinegar – this has the added benefit of probiotics! Strain through a fine mesh sieve or muslin cloth first to remove the bits that might clog the spray nozzle.
- Sandalwood essential oil – one or two drops to the underarms.
- Lavender oil – two drops to each armpit.
- Sole – either neat or diluted half and half with purified water.
- Magnesium hydroxide, aka milk of magnesia – some people swear by this.
- Magnesium oil – spray it on or put in a roller bottle. This does double duty as a deodorant and a way to get more magnesium into your system. Magnesium deficiency is rife.
- Colloidal silver spray
